My husband put together a slide show of pictures and facts that illustrates how every little decision that we make can have a profound impact on someone else. If you're interested you can view the site here. Please let me know what you think or offer me any suggestions that you might have.

I think, in addition to giving priority to our own comefort etc, sometimes we make these self-indulgent decisions, because these needs that need to be met are too distant and abstract for us. Making the comparisons your husband does in the slideshow makes them more concrete and personal.
It reminds me of the approach to missions that my local church is following this year. We've been giving to a lot of causes all over the world. But this year (for the next four or five years as needed) we are focusing especially on one region and a holistic approach in that region. This way we can learn a lot about these people and be involved in a more personal way. People already are much more passionate about this project than the usual scattered approach.
